Code of Conduct
ClaytonCon should be a place where all attendees feel safe and respected, regardless of who they are.
Anti-harassment policy
ClaytonCon does not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Harassment includes offensive comments related to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, appearance, body size, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or age. Violations result in a warning and, if the behaviour continues, expulsion from the event.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Offensive verbal, written, or social media comments reinforcing social prejudice
- Inappropriate patterns of social contact
- Off-topic sexual images or behaviour in ClaytonCon spaces
- Unwelcome physical or simulated contact without consent
- Publishing private communications without consent
- Deliberate misgendering or use of a name a person has rejected
- Outing someone's identity without their consent
- Threats of violence or incitement of violence or self-harm
- Behaviour designed to disrupt the event
The following are not acted upon:
- "Reverse-isms"
- Reasonable communication of personal boundaries (e.g. "leave me alone")
- Uncongenial tone
- Criticizing oppressive behaviour or assumptions
Reporting
If you experience or witness harassment, please report it to Fay or Shawn. All reports are handled confidentially. You are not required to confront the person yourself.
Consequences
Anyone asked to stop harassing behaviour is expected to comply immediately. Continued harassment may result in expulsion from ClaytonCon.
Be nice — some guidelines
- Ask permission before photographing or recording other attendees
- Respect personal space; obtain consent before physical contact
- Be respectful in all discussions, especially on topics touching discrimination
- Be conscious of how your behaviour affects others
